Thanks for the response, Whim. Seems like I have version 1.01 revison 3.00, AKA 1.01c, and thus I'm out of luck using CHDK until someone ports it to 1.01.

I have only a Mac computer (not enough RAM to run windows). How can I get the version number out of the SD980 and move on to using CHDK on it?

You can use zeno's ACID Java app to get the fw version from an image; for more informations about CHDK & Mac i suggest to read the Mac FAQ, especially the Still having trouble ? section...
