Very interesting. Sony has previously released source for their Linux based cameras, but AFAIK they all have a locked down bootloaders so you couldn't actually do anything interesting with it.

The dpreview article is making sounds like Samsung isn't taking this approach. Given their experience with android etc I wouldn't be surprised if they released something useable, but I don't see anything from Samsung confirming that.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

If you follow the link to the Samsung site from DPReview, then click the Photography/Digital Cameras menu you get to a download page. There is a download for the source plus another for build / install instructions - which goes through the firmware update steps.

So it would appear you can replace the camera firmware with a custom version.
Not sure if there are limitations, or proprietary bits in there though.
