grabbing the version number on a a810

How do does one do it?  I have created ver.req and vers.req in the root folder of the SDHC card but haven't worked out the correct sequence of buttons to press to display the version number of the firmware.

Is it possible to just update to a known version using the cannon software CD / Internet connection?

Thanks John

ver.req method does not work on A810. If you are trying to discover firmware version to install CHDK, you can use ACID or STICK

Acid worked perfectly

Thank you.

I have three A810 cameras, two give a version number with ACID and STICK one does not.  Both ACID and STICK say no version number in the picture.

The interesting thing isthe serial number is between the two that are both the same version.

Thoughts?

Thanks John

What version number are the first two?

Depends on what version numbers the first two are.  If they are a 100b & 100d then maybe you've discovered a 100c.   Still, its strange that ACID does not point this out - are the camera' setup exactly the same way?  Can you upload a JPG from the camera that does not work - it would be interesting to see what's in its EXIF header.

Both are 100e, the middle one is an openbox so may have been updated.  Unfortunately the .jpg size is 4 mbs so I'll drop it on my Google drive so you can pick it up.

I may try 100e anyway.

Thanks John

exiftool reports
"Firmware Revision               : 1.00 rev 5.00"
which is 1.00e

The file has some Microsoft-related information inside, so I suspect that it was downloaded directly from the camera (and apparently the software used for download slightly altered its metadata). This might have been the cause of failure for ACID and STICK.

That makes sense, I took the SDHC card out and loaded the PC from the SDHC card for the first two but used Windows transfer for the last one.

Thanks John

Taking a photo then copying the .jpg directly from the sdhc card onto the PC then running ACID gives 100e.

Thanks John

It looks like it trashed the "Maker Notes" section of the EXIF header - which I would guess is where STICK & ACID look for firmware version information.
