From soup to nuts, I need help with a sd1200 on a mac.

Hey everyone, this is the first time I'm trying anything like this. Frankly, this is my first digital camera.

I'm taking a motorcycle from philadelphia to key west and want to do a time lapse of the trip.

bought a SD1200 with the recommendation of using CHDK...but now that I'm in the thick of it, I'm way over my head.

got a 32 gig SD card, partitioned, put on the appropriate script, flipped the lock and every time I put the card in i just get a message that says "Card Locked!"

To make matters worse, I'm using a mac. I attempted both guides. the SDM installer, which didn't really work and the disk utility walk through

I know the list of things I did wrong could be a mile long, but I'm just not very good at this stuff and was hoping someone could shed some light on what to do next.

thanks so much.

Did you read through this :
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card
Its pretty much the best (and only) comprehensive guide to setting up CHDK.

You might want to pay particular attention to the message box at the top that points you to the STICK utility.

It should handle everything for you and "just work"  (a term I understand you Mac addicts find comforting :)  )

When you have everything working,  take a look at this : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Drivelapse
and possibly this (older) stuff : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=2589.msg24632#msg24632

Can you edit the file   stick.properties   and add a line that says :

debug=yes

rerun STICK all the way through and post the resulting    sticklog.txt  file here as an attachment ?

Thanks for posting that.   Looks like you tried several time after it failed the first time.  Everything else looks okay so I'm at a loss.

If you could not find the stick.properties file in the same folder as the stick app (after its been run), just create a new text file called stick.properties in the same directory and put the single  debug=yes line in it.

Meanwhile,  I'll try to ping zeno to see if he has any ideas.

Incidentally,  with the SD card switch not locked,   can you use the "firmware update" method listed in the link I posted above?

Just took a look at the porting thread.  Should have done that right away - sorry.

Its not clear from there that the camera will work properly with larger SD cards :
http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=4324.msg97125#msg97125

Can you try a 2G or 4G card?  Use STICK - its working fine - the CHDK port might be the issue here.

Otherwise,  reformat you large card from scratch with a single partition (in the camera if necessary) and try the firmware update method.

I have a smaller card i can try, but will that matter for how many photos I'm taking? it's gonna be like a 20 hour drive....wont i run out of space on a smaller card?

That depends on how quickly you shoot and the size of the image you configure your camera to take.  The math is pretty simple.

If you can get firmware update working then you can use a single FAT32 full size partition and have lots of space.  It just takes a couple of extra steps every time you start your camera.

By the way,  you do realize that you camera's internal battery won't last for 20 hours ?
