oh my god, it works! everything works! and it looks great!

I promise I'll come back and post the vimeo files as soon as I can!

(might even try my hand at some sky timelapse of stars on a clear secluded night)

It a common problem - you can enable/disable RAW with a "keyboard shortcut".  People tend to accidentally hit the shortcut while learning CHDK.   

In the new development version of CHDK,  there is a menu option that allows you to disable shortcuts.

Im back! I've been on the road...doing my best. Doesn't look great, but its a start.

The problems are a little extensive.

The app i have isn't letting me modify the individual pics (except for deleting them)

Most of the shots are blurry, which hurts my heart.

Im trying a similar experiment with video that's going better, but im not sure which camera has better video, the power shot 1200 IS  or the Kodak play sport EIS

Here's a sample of what I did with the Kodak

It's still uploading on Vimeo so it might not be available til 320

It's a bit hard for me to tell from the video rather than an original frame, but it looks like a lot of the blur is motion blur. This means the exposure times are probably too long for the level of motion and vibration where the camera is mounted.

Assuming you are using drivelapse http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Drivelapse you might want to increase the Target Tv96 and possibly the Maximum Sv96

These are in funny units, so here's quick reference
shutter speed = tv96
1/125th = 672
1/250th = 768
1/500th = 864

ISO = sv96
800 = 768
1600 = 864

You can add or subtract 96 to either of these values to get the next "stop" in the sequence. I'd suggest keeping the shutter speeds 1/250th or shorter at the very minimum.

If your camera mount doesn't have a lot of vibration isolation, you might want to work on that too.

I can't really tell in the video if the focus is OK. It looks like some of the images are reasonably focused, but if the camera is trying to AF, it would probably miss a lot. The script tries to lock the focus at infinity, but it may or may not be working. Looking at individual stills might help clarify this.
