Making a *wireless* usb trigger....

I'd like to be able to trigger my camera wirelessly to take pictuers, so I was thinking about building an RF remote system to take pictures.

My plan is for the wireless circuit to trigger a relay which makes contact on a regular CHDK-style USB cable. In other words, instead of (or in addition to) having a button at the end of the 5v USB cable, there's a relay which is triggered by my RF remote.

Does anyone know of any good RF remote and relay kits? I found this one but its a bit overkill:

Electronic Kits, Circuits and Projects

The big thing I don't like about that kit, aside from it being so large and somewhat pricey, is that it needs 12 volts. I wonder if it would work off 9? Or I guess I could power it off a small 12v cell, like the type they use in car alarms.

Anyone know of a nice simple small circuit, that uses a single relay, is triggered by an RF remote (IR is useless to me), and is, if possible, powered by 9v or less?

I found this one too:

RF Remote Control Receiver AM6621-310

Smaller and cheaper, but still requires 12 volts.

Also has some interesting features, like being able to be set to toggle (press remote for on, then again for off), on while pressed, and momentary.

Works with this remote:

Remote Control RF Transmitter 1 Channel 600-1B-310

Total cost is about the same as the previous kit though. And this remote says the range is only about 10 yards, while the other one claimed 50...

This is interesting too, according to this post a wireless doorbell would work too:

Readily available and cheap, my favorite.

I remember something at this thread building usb-remote-cable. It's not RF, but did you read it?

You can use IR to make a small and simple remote trigger.

For details of one I made:
