Re: New releaser - Allbest. His build. - OSD not showing
« Reply #131 on: 20 / January / 2008, 07:09:07 »
on the previous version of the Allbest build I remember everything
was working fine on my A630, but now after the update to the latest
version for some reason the OSD is not showing anymore, I even tried
completely removing the CHDK files from the SD card, (firmware and folders)
and uploading again the latest Allbest firmware to the card, but still the OSD
isn't shown, I can see it only when editing the OSD layout, what's wrong?

Thanks for the help!

I installed this amazing CHDK on my A610, and everything seems to work find, except some troubles in some scripts, especially a bracketing script using clicks....were bracketing steps are not working properly (i did work on the basic CHDK)...but anyway, I use now the bracketing script that don't use clicks, and it is even better (faster, allow more than +-2IL, smart scripting...)

Override function are just unbelivable...more than 3 aperture higher at wide angle (11 instead of 8) and 16 instead of 8 at tele....higher shutter speed with flash synchronized...longer exposure (around 60 seconds)....lower ISO...around 30 instead of 50 (60 real)...but I was just sad that I coul not increase ISO more than in standard settings...(400 (500 real))...however, I love the motion detection script....and all possibilities with raw directly from the camera....it is simply brilliant...

Just try it, and I am pretty sure you will keep it....OSD paramters are neat and efficient...it's just missing the real EXIF in jpg files when override function are used...but I think there are some solutions....  :o

Yes there are some solutions. The real metadata when using the override function (ISO, exposure time etc) is not written in the EXIF tag of the JPG but in another tag called "Maker notes". If you want it to be displayed in your prefered pictures management software you can copy the information from the Maker notes to the correspondig EXIF tag.

There is a piece of software called exiftool (http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/) that manipulates metadata, you just have to run this command on a console:

exiftool -overwrite_original -exif:iso<iso

or this for the exposure:

exiftool -overwrite_original -exif:ExposureTime<MakerNotes:ExposureTime

hope it helps.

After an unplanned hiatus from Kite Aerial Photography (KAP) with my Canon S3-IS this last summer and fall I was ecstatic to find the CHDK has appeared on the seen in that time!  CHDK, in particular the intervalometer scripts will now allow me to more effectively create my KAP photographs!

Many thanks to all of you.  This is absolutely incredible.

My hat is off to the developers of CHDK and the community of script writers!  Thank you for making the tool I have wanted for my Canon from the start, but did not have the resources to create.

I'm trying to get MX3's script to run on my A640. The script is from Barney's  post over here:

Highest Speed Motion-Detection (Lightning) Scripts top script

I'm using allbest #37 and the script appears to load fine. Now when in ALT mode I'll press shutter release to start the script. For about  1/2 a sec I see ***started*** immediately followed by ***finished***. Nothing else happens. I tried to increase the script shoot delay but that had no positive results.

I'm sure someone has already asked but searching is taking me everywhere but the answer. We should be having some thunderstorms in the area soon and I'd love to test this script out. ;)

Impact9,

I believe you have to go into the script menu system and select the script you want run... There is a "default" script that does nothing other than say "started", some explanatory text, and "done" (IIRC).

Looking at the script you pointed to (~2nd post), there is no "print" statement with "started" and "done"...
