Canon announced that sluggish Canon EOS M autofocus will be up to 2.3x faster with firmware update... Any way to improve AF speed with chdk?

The EOS M is based on the DSLR codebase, so it's almost certainly irrelevant to CHDK.

Also, my impression is the EOS-M had significant issues with AF a launch, so a more appropriate title would be something like "Canon works around EOS-M AF bugs"
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Yes, it was slow from factory. I'm glad I didn't get one.
I have a lot of fun with my A590is+SX40HS+CHDK  8)

What I find interesting is how they can tap into the AF code with a firmware to speed things up.

Note that the speed up is listed as being up to 2.3x faster.  Might only be that much faster for certain very special cases.

My take is
1) Original EOS-M firmware and/or hardware design had bugs related to the AF system.
2) New firmware fixes or works around at least some of those bugs.

I don't see anything interesting about this unless you are an EOS-M owner. Bugs in a new system are  expected, and even when the underlying fault is in hardware it's pretty common to be able to get some improvement through firmware workarounds.

I see absolutely no reason to think that similar speedups would be possible in cameras that weren't buggy to start with.

And yes, waterwingz is right that "up to" is a magic phrase that doesn't necessarily much ;)

No, I just own two Canon Powershot and got them because of chdk.
Yeah, the "up to 2.3x" might be if all the planets are aligned :)
