You can buy a USB OTG cable for the Nexus 7 tablet on eBay for a couple of pounds/Euros/dollars.I use that and a small card reader to transfer my photos at end of each day when on holiday.I'm currently in Italy doing just that.
Out of curiosity, can you download images directly from the camera with that?
I guess I should see if it transfers DNG images too.
It will presumably be subject to the normal PTP listing rules, meaning that:
The other question is whether you can copy images from the album app to an external storage device. I suspect this should be possible with a file manager app, but going directly from the the camera to an external device (using a hub) may not be.
This also raises the possibility of making a chdkptp client for these devices.
I was going to see if any of the 3 or 4 file manager apps I have will do better.
The extension / prefix stuff is mostly dependent on the camera firmware behavior, not the client. Of course the android client may have additional issues on top of that. I would suggest first verifying that you can see the files over standard PTP (not using a CHDK extension client) on a PC before trying anything on the tablet. You could use gphoto2 or ptpcam for this.
Apologies if I'm belaboring the obvious, just trying to save you time and frustration.
