If you try:

CHDK Settings->OSD Settings->Miscellaneous Values->Show Misc Values [Shoot]

Misc Values [Shoot] acts as Misc Values [Always]

I tried to display Zoom value [EFL] and it always shows on the screen with [Shoot] or [Always].

Unless I am missing something.

It seems to me it's the zoom value specifically that's broken, the others appear to respect the "shoot" setting.
