also since cameras have limited amount of buttons
if they were allowed to do more
do you

esp if since you already paid for camera..
some features that older/newer/other cameras don't have (or competitor brands even.)
e.g. dim/brighten the LCD monitor according to surrounding lighting
(would require REC mode or if play mode save from last time?)

if e.g. in videos for newer cameras the zoom is very slow(but for pics has fast, different even though not vari-zoom-control speed model) (maybe if makes for pro-look)
but zoom-out is too slow may miss sudden moving events
so if options for zoom-in-out so after delay instead increases zoom-in-out speed to max

if had to press many buttons to do one thing might be clumsy
it the presses/hold/multi/combos were customizable so it would be different
depending on what you want

if for those special keys ui feedback would probably help

if CHDK menu items if you pres and hold down (after initial press) nothing happens

apparently development also is fragmented (many different models)
and there are priority issues  maybe a way to triage/rate things?

Zoom is slow in video to prevent picking up the noise of the actuators, not for "pro look".

CHDK might be able to enabled fast zoom in video, but it's not clear how the UI for this would work. The current mess in the keyboard code would make adding special combos quite difficult. On cameras that already have two-stage zoom levers, this might not be a problem.

On many cameras where zoom was not allowed at all, CHDK is able unlock it, but if you don't also mute the mic (which CHDK can also do on some cams), the noise is quite severe.

what about shortcuts
on [func/set] + up/down/left/right
