S5IS chdk basic Q&A

Q1: How to turn on LCD when in shooting mode? I get only EVF to work, LCD works fine in preview though.

Q2[bug?]: When using CHDK menu in shooting mode cam shuts off EVF after some time and can't restore it till i change program/dial. I think i have turned on power saving.

A/Q1: What do you mean exactly? It's switched on fine and I can switch between LCD/EVF with the DISP. button. Does the EVF turn off when you press that button once or twice (the LCD should turn on now)?

A2: You probably have, it's in the Canon menu, second tab from the right, a few entries down 'Power Saving...'. When you're in the CHDK menu, you're in ALT mode, which means that the camera won't be notified about any keystrokes. No key will wake up the camera (except for mode dial, of course... possibly also raising/closing the flash) until you exit ALT mode with the ALT key and press another one. As stated in the Canon user manual, you can also turn the camera into vertical position and it will wake up again.

Q3: What's up with 'S5IS 1.01c'? Is it really that version and if so, why does the 1.01b version work on it? Also, this might be the cause of Q1, though I can't remember hooking any code which controls LCD brightness/state in the final build.

AA/Q2: is not there a way to pass some NOOP codes to camera when in ALT mode?
A/Q3: it's just 1.01b "chdked"

R/QAA/Q1: so it works now? :)
RAA/Q2: CHDK menu -> Miscellaneous stuff -> Disable LCD off [No, Alt, Script]. That should do it, I think. I guess the default setting is 'off', so that would explain it. I completely forgot about this value, I set it to Alt as soon as I found it and never cared about it anymore

So, you have 1.01c and it fully works with CHDK 1.01b?

BTW. I heard there is 1.01m version (it has English & Japanese interface only).

no, it is 1.01b, as i wrote before...

i met some problem: camera has built-in orientation sensor and after flipping cam OSD disappears, and when i press some button it back but not all i.e. no menu title is redrawn.
does it means that OSD is only redrawn on keypress?

edit: is there a possibility to disable text's background? is there get_pixel_from_oryg_screen() func in chdk?
