Synchronising multiple cameras for Movie capture
Posted By:    microfunguy Tue Jul 30, 2013 8:36 am  | Options

Synchronising two or more digital cameras for movie capture has long been an unsolved problem.
That problem has now been solved .. at least for some Canon Powershot cameras.
Initial tests with S95's indicate a median synch error of just 1/7000 sec.
Once the cameras are synchronised they can even be disconnected for hypers or whatever.
It will also be possible to synchronise multiple cameras.

Further cameras will be tested and drift over time measured.

An inexpensive accessory to enable this feature will be made available (from the UK or Germany) in the very near future.

I think that it would have been nice to see a "shout out" to everyone who posted in this thread to help make that happen.

Your personality is becoming extremely tedious.
Your response is as expected from past experience.

Development work has only started, not completed as you seem to think.
I can assure you that when SDM 1.86 is officially released, everyone who deserves an acknowledgment will get it.
That was the intention and that is how SDM releases have  always been in the past.

You obviously have not studied the code I sent or confirmed, as I requested, that it compiles OK.

Ah okay, I admit I haven't until now. Unfortunately I have a very boring job for the next three days. :-( After that I will dig into that! Thanks!

When I mentioned in the PTP Multiple Instances thread that I was still developing code, that actually referred to movie synch.

A little patience is required  ...........

Any updates on this ?

So much to do, not enough time ..........

Yes, a new device is being tested that does not use a photo-sensor.
Synch error is typically 0.2 to 0.4 msec.
That means a movie frame on one camera is captured five lines after the other camera.

Someone may be testing this with a 24-camera rig in a couple of weeks time, with movie start increasingly delayed for each camera.

I have been held-up for six days with a software problem that I cannot solve.
The problem is too specific to seek help on the forum.

After that, I have a PTP download problem that is already the subject of a separate thread.

Then, there is preparation for Spring timelapses ...........

Thanks David. The worksheet in the files section from 2012 indicated that the delay for S100 is 0-1ms
Is that still the same ?
Thats 0-30 scanlines I assume?

Hello girls and guys and so on. Is there any advancing in this topic in terms of becoming maybe available as an option in CHDK or as a built option?

Thanks a lot! Martin...
