What is not obvious from the video, is the construction of the "nok-duino"(tm) :P , the Arduino clone is cunningly fixed directly to the nokia display, and backlight control uses software PWM, the entire display runs from the atmel gpio, so it can be completely switched off.

I finally got around to  documenting the "Sunset Timer" which I intend to use with the Quick Weatherproof Box, on Hackaday, and was surprised to find they actually did a feature on it, despite the fact that it is still a work in progress.

Completely off topic, but if you are looking to add motion to your timelapse, Sainsbury's supermarket in the UK are doing a special offer on clockwork kitchen timers for £1.80 (was £7.00)

It has a very satisfying tick, and rings a bell when your timelapse is cooked.Oh... and it has a large magnetic base, so you can stick it to... pretty much anything made of steel.

I didn't have an answer to this question at the time, but having just watched a clip on youtube, I think I might experiment with this trick to produce a hydrophobic coating on glass.

The problem may be one of ensuring that there is not too much clouding on the surface of the glass.

I think when they say "deodorant" they actually mean "anti-perspirant".  Regardless,  if you look closely at the resulting surface on the glass, I don't think you are going to want to shoot pictures through it.
