Memory Card Locked

Hi.

I'm attempting to get CHDK working on my Canon S95:

Firmware: 1.00H
SD card: SDHC 8GB

I have tried all the usual methods to get CHDK to load, which I can do so by running it with the Firmware Update. However, I can not get the SD card to be bootable. I always get the error:

Memory Card Locked

I guess CHDK has not run at boot? The last attempt I made was using the EOSCard utility which simplifies everything a great deal. However, I still get the problem.

I've also tried the dual partition method including using the CHDK Make Two Partitions options but nothing seems to work.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Use my STICK app - I guarantee it will do the job. See

Dave.

Still not working I'm afraid. I did a low level format on the camera first and then followed the instructions in STICK after running stickx.cmd (I'm on Windows 7). It created and identified the partitions correctly:

Code: [Select]
Drive F: 8GB
    writable with two partitions
    not bootable
    Partition  1:
         size=16MB
         format=FAT16
    Partition  2:
         size=7559MB
         format=FAT32

Everything went fine until clicking "Install CHDK". I then got:

Installation failed - see log for details

The log is:

Code: [Select]
Is an admin
Running on a 32-bit machine
elevated=true

I guess I need to establish which bit is causing me the problem:

-- The camera.
-- The card.
-- The PC.
-- The card reader.

The camera is tricky  :P but I can try swapping out the rest tonight. I'll keep you posted...

Some progress I guess, but not enough.

You can get more information in the STICK log (which should help) by adding the line
   debug=yes
to the stick.properties file before running STICK. Any text editor will do (eg Notepad) - the file is in the same folder as all the stick stuff.

Dave
PS I don't think the problem is with the PC or camera, and you left out the 5th possibility - STICK!

Right Dave.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've just tried it with a 1GB card and STICK worked a treat. :)

I'll set the debug option on and try the bigger card again.

Thanks for the log. This is strange because during testing I installed CHDK on an 8Gb card for my S95 several times.

One thing about the log - it seems to show that instead of formatting the small partition as FAT16 it tried to format the big one (and instead formatted it as FAT32). I know that because of Windows inability to show both partitions you have to do quite a bit of taking the card out and putting it back in again (to get Windows to recognise the right thing). Is it possible something went wrong here.

One thing that may be worth trying - format the card as FAT32 again using the camera (ie using the standard CANON menu option). Then run STICK again.
