Startup error with G10

Hello, CHDK Community!

A somewhat lost newbie, I suppose you could say, here with a question and a plead for help. I just spent the better time of my afternoon and night (it's currently 3:30 am here) installing CHDK on my old G10, having only just discovered it. I'm on a Mac, which seems to complicate things a bit, but happily, in the end, my problems weren't because of that. After reading about CHDK and wandering over here, I pretty quickly decided to install it and all, so I downloaded the latest firmware for the camera and the corresponding CHDK files, and happily set about finding the way to install them on the camera. There's really no need for me to detail all the different ways I tried of installing it, because I think I might've tried them all: I could probably rewrite the entire Mac FAQ/installation instructions by heart, thanks to the amount of time I read it over and over, and also ended up installing every piece of software ever designed for this purpose. The thing is, a fact which I realized quite belatedly, as you can see, I actually installed it correctly pretty much on my first try, and on every try since, which finally brings us to the heart of the matter (wow, I'm quite long-winded, aren't I? Sorry... :P) - the problem is that when I turn on my camera (using the power switch, obviously) it opens the playback photos thing, and in order to actually turn it on, so that the lens will extend and all, I have to half press the shutter button. I have no idea why this would happen, and while it doesn't render the camera unusable or anything, it certainly isn't pleasant, and increases startup time quite a bit. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas as to what I might do so it'll turn on normally? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! And thanks to the devs for making an excellent extension to an already great camera!

(TL;DR when I turn on the camera with the SD card where I have *correctly installed* CHDK with the locked tab down and all, it starts up in playback/view/photo mode, and to actually extend the lens and take a picture or anything, I have to press the shutter button. (Since I didn't realize I had to press the shutter button to actually use the camera, I spent a good couple of hours struggling to install the software, when I'd actually been doing it right the whole time. Sad story  :( )

It is the expected behavior. :)

If you hold down the power button until the you hear the lens extend, you can bypass this.  It was originally done as a "safety" thing to prevent the lens from extending in your camera bag if you accidentally press the on/off button.  Google "lens error" if you want to understand the breadth of the problem (not CHDK related) - this is actually a good feature.

Oh, thank you very much, I wasn't sure whether that was supposed to happen or not...I suppose it's already been answered on the forum, since you're quoting someone, when searching for an answer I just looked for g10 in the forum, thinking it a camera related problem. Duh! Now that I think about it, it is an awesome feature, because I always turn the camera on in the bag! Haha. Cheers, thanks again!
