Is it possible to save only the DNG file on a canon sx40?

I like to shoot either jpg or raw , not both as it eats up my card & have to delete on import

Its technically possible to do that but nobody has made it a standard feature of CHDK.  So unless you are able to compile your own version and do some hacking,  you won't be able to do that with the standard CHDK releaes.

It is possible prevent the jpeg being saved with the new "filewrite hook" code in 1.2, but as waterwingz says, we haven't made it a user option yet. If we did, you wouldn't be able to review the images on the card at all.

For space, setting the size / quality to low should make the jpegs quite negligible compared to dng.

... or you could add a script to your user menu to delete all of the jpegs, and run this when you start to run out of space.
