the sx50 Histogram wont stay off .
after one shot the dumb thing pops back on the screen After it has been disabled.
it just goes back to [Always] even after you set it to [Don't] and remove the ticks from the options for the Histogram.
i might have to Remove CHDK caus of this as its just in the way.

This has been reported once before by someone in the dpreview forum.  However, I have an SX50 with firmware 1.00C but have been unable to duplicate the problem.

One theory is that you are accidentally triggering one of the CHDK keyboard shortcuts.    The problem went away for the other user when he loaded the new version of CHDK from here :  http://mighty-hoernsche.de/trunk/ and went to the CHDK Settings menu and deselected the "Enable Half-Press Shortcut Keys" option.   You could try that?
