SX230 HS issue after trying CHDK

Hello all, just joined the forum.

Have tried CHDK with my Powershot SX230 HS firmware 1.0.1e, looks like it has worked however picture quality was awful, very pixelated and massive noise.

Tried camera without CHDK but still the same issue - is my camera bricked??!

If so, is there any way to re-install original firmware to get it back to how it was before CHDK. Camera is still showing original firmware version but something has gone very wrong, just want it back how it was.

Please help.

That's very unusual. What CHDK features did you use? Also, did you check to make sure you have not changed the jpg resolution in the Canon menus?

In the Canon menus there is usually a tab with "Tools" as the icon. Can you go there and try the "Reset All..." option.

CHDK does not make any changes to your camera's firmware. It loads in RAM and runs from there - which means it goes away every time you power cycle your camera and has to be reloaded.

Thank you for your response, panic over from my side.

I had already tried a reset and was aware that CHDK is read only each time the camera starts which is why I felt save giving it a go but thought something perhaps had gone wrong..

Turns out it was as simple as using f8 aperture which seems to send the image quality downhill very rapidly. Never expected that outcome even from a point-&-shoot but going back to f3.1 and pictures are normal again.
