yes i was trying to load a CHDK build for a different firmware version
Using the wrong firmware version for your camera will not work.  According to what you posted,  you need CHDK for firmware version 1.00B.

am i wrong to use the mkbt.exe?
Yes - you are wrong.  That utility appears to be for creating bootable floppy disks that run DOS on a PC.  Nothing to do with CHDK.

Have you read through this page :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

Choose the "logical disk" (drive K: in this case).

You have used the camera to format the card, the "MSDOS" card was formatted by a PC.

Actually, this utility appears on the Prepare_your_SD_card page. It can't make a card bootable, but it can be used to replace the bootsector of a partition.

edit:
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/EOScard is much easier to use, but it has to be used carefully: see the two screenshots on the page, how.

I've left those old manual methods on that page with some regret.  The instructions there for mkbt said :
  • Format card by any method on this page (recommend using your camera)
  • Make card bootable by any method on this page (recommend using CHDK)
which means it's pretty much useless for preparing your first SD card.

But I can see how somebody might be confused - especially if English is not their native tongue.

In any case,  I changed the first two instructions to now read :
  • Format card by any method on this page (recommend using your camera)
  • Make card bootable by any method on this page (recommend using STICK)

I have already understood that.
Apparently, the camera doesn't write "MSDOS5.0" into the boot sector, because that string is not mandatory. I don't think you should be worried about that.

Well, using STICK will also be complicated for those who don't have a supported camera. That page will need some cleanup (it could be replaced by a short list of easy-to-use methods, the long explanations and manual methods could be moved onto a separate page)...

The page predates STICK and as you might guess,  took a lot of work just to get it into the state it's in.  It might be long and complex, but at least it's correct.  There was no comprehensive page with accurate information prior to it's creation.

As far as simple methods go,  it's basically either STICK or formatting in your camera using CHDK menus after a firmware update boot ?

If you are trying to prepare you card to use extend.m script to dump the firmware,   it is not necessary. According to stick screenshot, your camera has 100b firmware, and it is available in P&S Firmare Repository.

that number 1 & 2 already done, i use camera low level format, and make bootable using stick (first try but failed).

my english is bad, but i'm not confused. BUT first try using that step failed, and i see:

Thx.

the wiki chdk show that screen shot using MSDOS 5.0, and because first try failed.

i try using mkbt.exe to make bootsector (THIRD try)

with DISKBOT.BIN from sx500is-100c-1.2.0-3354_BETA.

the command:

mkbt.exe -c -x g: e:\Data\CamDig\CHDK\ixus140_elph130-100b-1.2.0-3354_BETA\diskboot.bin

means:

1. mkbt.exe LOAD THE PROGRAM to make bootable
2. -c Copy mode (no install) used for copying the bootsector(s)
3. -x Expert mode (do not check drive A or B only)
4. G: <== TARGET memory card.
5. location source the bootsector (that means i using CHDK boot images NOT windows.

i often make bootable USB FlashDisk using hiren's_boot.bin (NOT USING windows BOOT.BIN), that USB FlashDisk is for using stand alone operating system, and can booting USB windowsXP under that Hiren's (without HardDrive at all).

NB:

1. i already using stick for make bootable memory card first time, result like mine first posting, not response at all, NO FIRMWARE update in menu.

2. with mkbt.exe the firmware update menu show..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
explanation what i did to DryOS ixus132 before i posting in forum:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A.
1. low level format using ixus132 (i never format using windows at all).
2. make bootable using stick (not response), menu firmware update not shown,

FAILED

B.
USING CardTricks144.exe (ALSO FAILED). menu firmware UPDATE NOT shown.

FAILED
-
C. my way:
1. low level format using ixus132 again (i never format using windows at all).
2. make bootable using mkbt.exe WITH boot_image_CHDK (like syntax above).
3. i put the ixus140 on that memory card.
4. MENU firmware update SHOWN (it means NO PROBLEMO with mkbt.exe right?)

the problemo is: i using ixus140 chdk NOT using ixus132 (not yet exist).

BUT with mkbt.exe i success loading "menu firmware update in ixus132?" am i wrong?
-
NB AGAIN:

that screen shot that said MSDOS 5.0 boot sector FROM WIKI CHDK http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Card_Setup#Overview

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Card_Setup?file=Canon_scriptdisk_hxd.png#Overview

see in the bottom that link above, that NOT mine screen shot, i just added the RED BOX and posting again in here...

mine show powershot canon...

because I NEVER format with windows..

thx.
