DNG or RAW files from D20 in Aperture 5

Dear All,
After managing to generate .CRW & DNG files with CHDK on a D20, and opening them in PICASA, I decided to purchase LIGHTROOM 5, as I used to be a user of V3 in a different life, and I find it has the best algorithm on the market.

I had read on several forums that LIGHTROOM could open CHDK raw files.

Unfortunately, this is not working for me.

Is it because ADOBE didn't build support for D20/CHDK files ? Or is it because I'm doing something wrong ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Steven.

CHDK raw (not DNG) is just a copy of the camera frame buffer. Tools that support it need to be updated for each different sensor layout, so even if some cameras are supported that doesn't mean yours will. It is not in the actual canon "CRW" or "CR2" format.

CHDK DNG should be readable by any DNG compatible software. I would certainly expect Adobe products to be able to handle it, since it's an Adobe standard.

Essentially - yes.

Save as DNG rather than RAW in the camera and it should work for you.

Hello.

The DNG option doesn't work either. Which striked me as odd.
The same file is opened perfectly in PICASA.

I'm happy to upload a DNG file somewhere so that somebody can have a quick peek at it.

Let me know.

Which option have you set?
Also what CHDK version are you using? You can find this under miscellaneous, build info.

Yes, that would probably help understand the problem.

OK.
The DNG file (which, again, opens fine in PICASA)

The JPG file for good measure.

I'm using this build :
d20-100b-1.2.0-2999-full_ALPHA.zip

To put things in perspective, the D20 is the only commercially available CANON Waterproof Camera.
Having RAW support opens up all sorts of interesting avenues of experimentation.

Thanks,

S

Sorry. I thought "Public" on Dropbox was public. Was clearly mistaken  ??? (sorry for the confusion).

According to this it can be done: https://www.dropbox.com/help/167/en

Anyway, I was able to download the DNG for google drive, and it fails to validate with dng_validate.

I see the problem in platform camera.h: the JPEG size is used to for the default crop, but is larger than the defined active area.
Code: [Select]
    #define CAM_JPEG_WIDTH                  4000    //Not checked
    #define CAM_JPEG_HEIGHT                 3000    //Not checked
    #define CAM_ACTIVE_AREA_X1              16    //Not checked
    #define CAM_ACTIVE_AREA_Y1              16      //Not checked
    #define CAM_ACTIVE_AREA_X2              4000    //Not checked
    #define CAM_ACTIVE_AREA_Y2              3000    //Not checked
I should be able to correct these based on your sample DNG. I will post a test build here when it's ready.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Thanks for being so quick at finding the pb !

I understand that this was a blind port. Let me know if there are other tests you would like me to do.
