Problems updating CHDK on Canon S5is

I'm trying to update CHDK on my canon s5is   The previous version was working fine, I verified my firmware,  it's GM1.01B so I downloaded "s5is-101b-1.2.0-3015-full"  and copied that onto my SD card.   The problem I am having is that I cannot load script or use the file browser.  when I try to select one of these, the lcd just flickers really fast but nothing happens.

You are trying to load CHDK 1.2 branch, if your previous CHDK version was older than 1.2 (1.1, 1.0 or older) you can't just put new binary file but the whole CHDK structure - CHDK directory, especially directory containing modules (CHDK/MODULES).
if (2*b || !2*b) {

}

Compile error: poor Yorick

Thats what I did... I put the memory card on my computer and I selected everything and moved it to a backup folder, at that point the card was blank.. I then copied the entire contents of the extracted "s5is-101b-1.2.0-3015-full" archive, I then copied a few of my own scripts back into the scripts folder and did not mess with anything else.. removed the card, turned on the write protect and turned on my camera.

What did you copy?  The download file?  Or the contents of that file?  And if you (correctly) copied the contents of that file, did you include all the folders and their contents?

If you use STICK,  it will correctly download, format and install for you.

I extracted the zip files to a folder on my computer and then copied the entire contents of that to my sd card.  It IS starting chdk when I turn on my camera, and it's reporting V1.2.0   Some menu entries work, but I can't load scripts or use the use the file browser.  I also noticed the calendar doesn't work either.   I did not reformat the card, I just selected all and moved it to a backup folder, then looked to see the card was empty before I copied the extracted contents of the zip file, including all the sub directories.. which I have just verified and they all look identical to the extracted zip file

This means that CHDK cannot find the .flt module files - all those functions that do not work are stored in those module files.  If you look at your SD card,  there should be a CHDK directory in the root directory.  Inside that directory there should be MODULES directory.  Inside that directory there should be 31 files with the .flt extension.

That's a pretty cool little program.  I tried again using Stick, and even had it re-download chdk, and format the card, but I'm still having the same issues

on my SD card, I have a chdk directory, and under that I have 12 sub-directories and one file.  one of those directories is named MODULES, however I only have 29 files in there, and all with .flt extensions

I checked the ZIP file,  it only has the same 29 files as well

Strange.

Unless someone comes up with a better idea,  I'd suggest turning off the SD card lock switch, starting the camera without CHDK and using the camera's menu to "low level format" the card.   Then use STICK to reinstall and see if that helps?

Update :  the 29 files you found are fine - so that's not the problem

I tried leaving the write protect off and starting chdk with the firmware update method... and still the same results
