Try 'Miscellaneous stuff -> Console -> Display last console'. Can you see error messages there after trying to use anything that relies on modules? (Lua, uBasic, the file browser, calendar, etc are all implemented in separate modules)

Hmm. Try erasing the chdk/books folder from the card - on a computer. Put it back into the camera, start CHDK 1.2, switch the cam off and see whether CHDK managed to recreate that folder. What operating system do you have on the computer?
The games and the logo are also in separate files btw.

Which was the latest CHDK release that worked?
There are older CHDK 1.2 test builds here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=9356.msg96559#msg96559
Try installing the appropriate one (with its modules) and see whether it's usable.

The latest CHDK 1.1 release is here: https://docs.google.com/folderview?id=0B08pqRtyrObjSmNmN2tPNl9Nd1k&usp=drive_web&tid=0B08pqRtyrObjdVlCeS0wN0tWR2M#list

How do I download one of these.. when I click on the one I want, it just says preview unavailable... but I never wanted to preview it, I just want to download it.  I tried right clicking on it and don't have an option to save it

I tried the 1.2 test build and have the same problems, however with this version, the error message is not cleared off the screen, so I can still see it.

I do get a download button at the bottom, the file downloads fine. I did get a server error in my previous try, so reliability is not 100%.

As there appears to be a 'success report' for one of those files, that could mean a problem with your card. Which size is it? Can you retry with another?

Did you low level format the card like I suggested?
