Hello, I am very new to this project. I have a problem to run chdk in A720 is. I would be very pleased, if you helped me to make it work.
I know my FW version (GM1.00c) and i am getting an "error" E18 (in fw screen set+disp) after I copied  these 2 files with flags:
$ ls -la /media/disk/
-rwx------ 1 michalxo root 131556 2008-04-14 22:37 diskboot.bin
-rwx------ 1 michalxo root 132304 2008-04-14 22:38 ps.fir
-rwx------ 1 michalxo root      0 2008-04-14 21:33 ver.req

I am unable to change these flasg to
-rwxrwxrwx   1 michalxo michalxo 131556 2008-03-08 18:37 DISKBOOT.BIN
-rwxrwxrwx   1 michalxo michalxo 132304 2008-03-08 18:37 PS.FIR
Maybe there is problem   ???

And now, I am stuck :( I dont know what to do, because it won't load :(
I have used these link for downloading chdk
http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/file/1.50-148-a720-100c-57.zip
thx cheers

I've just get an message from friend, that SD 1GB is probably FAT, which doesnt have any "advanced" flags, so the problem is elsewhere... Which makes me confused more and more....

is the e18 error accompanied by a date? does it look a bit like in the first post of this thread: questions regarding s3is ?

I do not understand that error so much on that thread but when I put inside camera original canon sd card, with ver.req file, there was the same error. I've got almost similar error as others, but I dont see taken-photo counter. So I dont know, why you pointed me on that thread  ???
I have only
Adj Ver.012. 006
ZoomLensError
with todays date ... (it's only 3days old camera)

as we understand that error, it is a kind of error log, showing occurrance of last error, meaning what error and when. in my post from the other thread it was a similar error. canon calls all errors involving the lens "e18", do a google search for "canon e18", there are tons of sites about that topic. did you do some unusual stuff with your cam today? sometimes this error occurs when the lens cant extend after turning on (maybe it was blocked).
however, this error isnt there BECAUSE of chdk, you only SEE it because of chdk (ver.req to be exact).
by the way, you dont need ps.fir - your cam cant load chdk this way. you need to make your cd card bootable. the flags of the file dont have effects.

edit: Bootable SD card - CHDK Wiki this should help you out, there is a linux section (funny, it is 5th entry in google when searching for "cd card bootable linux fat16" - i should have known better :D).
