RAW Color Correction Software?

In the near future hope to start a collaborative project that will involve different cameras shooting RAW (not all using CHDK).

Searched the Forum using "RAW Color Correction Software" but got nothing.

Appreciate any suggestions, especially by anyone who has done this.

For a large list of possibilities, you can look here particularly at the list called "Other Raw Photo Decoders" and here for related utilities including rawtherapee. It also might be worth letting us know what kind of subjects you are shooting and what operating system you are using.

EDIT: I forgot to mention GIMP has a (dcraw based) plugin for working with raw file formats too.

This is probably not a good search term. Color adjustment / correction is a major feature of pretty much any raw processing software, since the raw data isn't white balanced.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your responses!!! 

Seems I am not using the correct words.

Was pointed to "Color grading or colour grading is the process of altering and enhancing the color of a motion picture, video image, or still image...electronically"

Would like to match as best possible, stills from different mfrs cameras.  Since RAW photos contain all the data think it would be easier than with JPGs.

As result am looking for software that will do this automatically.

Hope someone has already done this and am interested in all suggestions!!!

Also hope someone has suggestions as to what search words to use.

I don't think this a good assumption. Raw contains the original data, but the hardware differs.

Do what exactly? If you mean create a color "correct" image, this is actually an extremely difficult problem and involves subjective judgements.

If you are trying to get objective photometric measurements that will also be difficult.

My goal was never to create the "correct color image", it is more like this statement  "Color grading or colour grading is the process of altering and enhancing the color of a motion picture, video image, or still image..."

OK, so the goal is to take images with different cameras, and process them such that if they were shooting the same scene, the results would look as similar as possible.

This seems like a pretty specific problem, I doubt you will find software that will just do it for you automatically. I don't see how you would do this without calibration for each camera, but I guess it depends how close you need to get.

It seems like it should be possible in theory if you can get shots of very similar scenes under very similar conditions from each camera.

That is the ideal app but we are interested in any app that can do this. 

Hoped that some others may have tried a number of apps and had preferences.

Do we know how many cameras and what type they will be or is the idea here to process a bunch of different images from different contributors, with unknown camera models and make the resultant images look as similar as possible to a particular style?

What operating system are you using?

Whatever you choose will depend on how many images you are dealing with. If you have a large number of images, then the software you choose must be capable of batch processing those images.

Gimp (which has a batch mode for post processing multiple images) and RawTherapee would be top of my list of candidates to start playing with. If you have never used anything like this before it can be a bit of a steep learning curve, but worth it for the results.
