I have a very specific need for my G15 to start up not at full wide angle when powering on. Is there an easy script or menu feature I could use so that I could specify a focal length and have the camera zoom to that length on power on?

I have a very specific focal length I need to use for my photography and this would be very helpful as opposed to powering on and then bumping the zoom button until I get it exactly where I want it.  Is this possible?

I think you can use C mode (on the mode dial) for registering a specific zoom position, no need to use a script for this on this camera.

This is very very very close to what I'm looking for. One minor caveat...this locks the zoom once the script is run. I'd like it to zoom to a specified location and then if I want to adjust it from there I can use the zoom like normal. Is that a quick change in the script?

*EDIT* I stand correct, Custom mode also performs this feature

No they don't - read the manual.

The mode in C1 & C2 is whatever mode you were in when you saved the C1/C2 settings. If you want to program C1/C2 to use M mode then select M before saving C1/C2.

Well, it's not supposed to.  And I tested on three of my cameras and it does not do that (didn't check the SX50 though).

Sound like it might be a another bug in the G15 port.  Nothing I can think if to fix that from a script.  My G10 works as you describe when I run the script.
