I'm sure the script exists but search didn't turn up an obvious result.

Is there an existing feature that will show the current equivalent 35mm focal length on screen?

No script required. 

Go to the CHDK Settings menu.   Select OSD Settings.   Enable Show OSD.  Scroll down to Miscellaneous Values and select.  In the Miscellaneous Values menu,  set Show Misc Values to Always.  Scroll down to Show Zoom and enable it.   Move to Zoom Value and set to EFL.

Done.
