I give up, this is cr*p, it quite simply does not work.

The first time I tried MpegAutoIndexSource, a DOS box opened, a dynamic display of movie info shown  and even briefly the movie itself.
An index folder has been created and there is a copy of the movie with .h264 extension.
Now, it never works, source file format not suitable.

Why are movies such a pain and have been for years ?

Canon and others insist on choosing the movie formats least suitable for editing.

I will make a short mov clip available for download later.

Well it's the only thing that worked for me. Did you put the folder in the plugins directory as well?

According to the Convert link you gave, the SX50hs' YUV colour space with 4:2:0 subsampling IS YV12.
However, if ConvertToYV12 is omitted FRC complains.

MOV and MP4 are just containers. The contents are nearly identical so it should make no difference.

They may only be containers but Apple has a genius for making life difficult for users.
Just do a search for 'mov conversion".

It is almost 3am, I am going offline.

I will upload a short mov clip later.

The developer of the plugin does mention that his camera uses H264 in a mov container.

I will check if all files reached their destination on the Windows7 PC.
I sent via the network from my Win Xp PC.

It is possible the extremely annoying Avast anti-virus has done something with suspect ones.

No disagreement there. Quicktime is the worst most bloated dysfunctional media player out there. And Apple does do its best to monopolize everything so users have no choice. But Microsoft does that too. I have Blu-rays of BBC Planet Earth and I cannot convert them in OS X to playable MKVs because they use a MS proprietary format, namely interlaced VC-1 a.k.a. WMV9. There is not one single codec that is compatible with OS X. But the container itself doesn't matter. It's the codec used for the contents that counts. In this case it is h.264 MPEG-4. It seems that AviSynth has trouble with this codec.

It will not be available for too long as my DropBox Public folder was recently suspended for generating excessive traffic.

A DOS window opens and closes, file info is dynamically displayed and briefly so too is the movie.

Then the unsuitable source format message is displayed.

Incidentally, if they are "just containers" why are there so many web searches for mov to mp4 converters ?

It opened just fine with MpegAutoIndexSource. Here is the 25% version using FRC:

I don't know. You must have an older version of AviSynth (2.5) or you didn't install the plug-in in correctly. Did you look at the image of the directory structure I posted?

I don't know but I am not very interested in the answer. Those are the only two media formats that Apple supports natively. Either one plays well on iDevices. I suppose Windows and especially linux users probably hate dealing with Quicktime for MOVs. I know I do even on OS X. You could always remux them to MP4s if you want but it is unnecessary IMO.

Quite simply it does not work with VirtualDubMod.

HOWEVER, it does work with VirtualDub 1.9.11  :)

In addition, it is even 'cleaner' using QTSource() to input the movie and the alternative syntax.

I may process the full clip and put on YouTube so that you will be able to see where the mega-panorama is shot.

I do not like providing information to American companies, because although seeming harmless it reveals certain details and is yet another addition to the information 'haystack' that allows them to connect-the-dots  .... possibly incorrectly.

We now know this is not paranoid.

That said, I don't have many options unless I send it to you privately.

Well, first of all, I'm the one who spent hours getting this to work for you, not you. This statement comes off as you being very ungrateful for the work I put in trying to help you. I didn't mind doing it because I like to help people and I learned a lot in the process but I really don't expect such negativity in return.

Who said anything about VDM? I never liked that because AviSynth simply works better with VD. No wonder you had so many problems.
