I just got the firmware up and running on my a1400 and I ran into a snag with the following script.  When I copied this script .bas into the Scripts folder on my card and tried to load it in CHDK, nothing happens.  CHDK doesn't take me to a file selection page when I select "Load Script From File".
This almost always means that you have not installed CHDK correctly.  You are missing some of the module files (.flt) that CHDK needs for operations like loading scripts.

How did you configure your camera's SD card?  Complete & current instructions are always here :
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card
and I highly recommend using the STICK  utility linked at the top of that page.

Greetings from a newbie. Success installing. Success manually setting RAW mode in the main menu but no success with any kind of quick toggle/shortcut. Possible on this camera? There are fewer buttons and none that are labeled +/-.  A quick button by button how-to would be welcome.

I'm trying to record images remotely on a a1400 with chdk a1400-100b-1.3.0-3421 and chdkptp.
After connecting by usb the camera switches to play mode automatically.
I found no way to switch to record mode, while being connected.
When entering "rec" command in  chdkptp -i, I get the following error code:

  con 4> rec
  ERROR: switch failed

Running scripts while disconnected seems to be working ok:
it's possible to record images with the interval script etc.

I noticed the same thing with my A1200 and G10 last night but didn't have time to pursue it. Might be related to the recent USB remote changes or maybe my chdkptp build is old?

Update 1:  see this :  http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10664.msg107378#msg107378 - I updated my OS release recently and that may be causing my problem

Update 2: as suggested in update 1 above,  problem was my O/S - recent update to Fedora 20 restored the links I previously broke. Looks like gphoto was again "grabbing" the USB port when the camera connects.  Fixed it with :

Code: [Select]
> sudo rm /usr/libexec/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
... FWIW.

Thank you.
Renaming and killing the  gphoto deamon  solved the issue.

Hello everyone !

I'm using CHDK in Near-Space photography projects.
Recently I bought A1400 and now I'm testing it's RAW capabilities.
I get both the DNG and JPEG files in the same folder.
However, Something strange is happening. RAW image is wider and blurred while JPEG is crystal clear.
I have attached the two image so you can see own your own.
It is a bug on the APLHA channel or am I doing something wrong ?

That's not a bug, you're not doing anything wrong. See this FAQ entry.

Ok, now I use the dcrawMS.exe and I convert the RAW into a huge TIFF image.

But still that image is blurred and wider. Nothing has changed !
What else do I miss? I was supposed to get a sharp high quality image !!!

It's wider because that's what the camera actually sees. The canon firmware does distortion correction when it creates the jpeg, which discards much of the data around the edges. DNG gives you the raw data before correction. You can create a lens profile to do the correction yourself.

Not being able to see your image, I'm not sure what you are referring to as "blurred". The raw can't actually be less focused than the jpeg, but differences in processing could make it look softer. If you want feedback on what you can do differently, you should upload the original files somewhere.

This is a misunderstanding. DNG gives you the raw data from the sensor. Whether you can use it to make a better jpeg than Canon is up to you. Canon's jpegs are quite good though, so you will probably have to work hard to do much better.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
