Scratch this; the CCD was showing in the OSD and was obscuring the zoom; working fine now!

However, when I run the script the zoom setting won't activate; I've tried various steps, up to 100% and it won't zoom when I activate the script. I'm using it without the usb remote plugged in, but should that make a difference?

I've edited the zoom visibility in OSD Settings and it's activated, but still nothing changes on the OSD when I zoom in or out. Is this to be expected?
Oops.

Updated script attached.

All works fine, apart from the zoom. I've edited the script to remove the set zoom function; using the script as is seems either not to activate the zoom or cause the camera to shut down. Being able to set the parameters before each shoot is incredibly useful; thanks for providing this script!

Strange. I tested the zoom stuff on two of my cameras (A1200 & S100) and it works properly.

Could there be something enabled in chdk which would create this problem
?

That's always a possability. Or it could be related to a Canon setting like the AutoFocus settings.  But more than likely it's a bug or weakness in the A1400 port.

There was also this comment the other day ( http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=12410.msg122841#msg122841 ) about needing a set_zoom_speed( ) prior to using set_zoom( ).  I've never needed to do that on any camera but maybe it would help you?

That isn't going to make any difference on this camera, as SetZoomActuatorSpeedPercent is not implemented.

What exactly is the problem? Is the problem affecting both cameras?

Hi, when the script is activated, with a zoom value entered, nothing happens with the zoom. The zoom indicator doesn't budge. On one of the cameras, this resulted in a power down, but generally the zoom value in the script doesn't appear to work, on both cameras. When I use a slow zoom script to set the zoom in small increments, it's prone to crashing unless I hold the zoom while advancing it. If I zoom sporadically, it crashes the camera.

What's not clear to me is:
- Do both cameras work correctly when CHDK isn't loaded? Can you zoom back&forth with the zoom lever?
- Do both cameras tend to crash when zooming with the script?
- How does that slow zoom script look like?

Can you get a romlog after such a zoom-related crash?

It's possible that the CAM_NEED_SET_ZOOM_DELAY value needs to be increased in platform_camera.h.
