Save settings?

Hi all, I just put CHDK -Allbest-50- on my a720IS and it works fine.

However, when I turn the camera off and back on all the settings (histogram, zebra, icon positions, ect...) I changed are all reset.

Is there any way to save these so it starts in the same state I left it?

 Thanks.

I had the same problem "way back in the old'en days" when the A720is was first ported... Turned out that the file system was not creating the directory structure and default files (they added a delay to the code).

Probably using an external card reader, do you see:

CHDK/CHDK.CFG

Plus the following directories under CHDK:

BOOKS
FONTS
GRIDS
LANG
SCRIPTS

On the original A72is build, I just had to create the directory structure and then the camera worked fine after than (was fixed around build 23--back around January 21, 2008...

Also, it is possible you have a corrupted CHDK.CFG file... You can try deleting it and setting your preferences.

Well, I tried to create it manually, and for some reason it only saves my settings on a 1GB card I have but not the 4GB. Does it not save on these bigger cards for some reason?

I did format into FAT16, it loads CHDK fine, but won't save my settings like the 1GB card will.

are you sure this fat16? winxp for example doesnt format 4 gbs with fat16 normally. you need to type in a special command.

I believe you have properly formatted the card as FAT16--because CHDK won't load if the card is formatted as FAT32 (boot loader requirement by the Canon boot firmware)...

Did you put the SDHC card on a USB card reader and check to see if the directory structure+CHDK.CFG file I listed above is there?

Also, have you tried deleting just the CHDK.CFG file only and then modify/save your settings (I believe the save is "automatic" once you exit the CHDK menu--so don't turn off the Camera until you have first exited <ALT> mode...).

Lastly, try copying the entire directory+CHDK.CFG file structure from your 1 GB card to your 4 GB card...

I had a problem with my A720is that the first CHDK for that camera did not allow enough time (I think I got this correct) for the file system create/writes. My original work-a-round was to create the directories manually.
