The only draw back is that i loose the VIDEO key toggling RAW (as per your mod).
Took another look.

Here's an complete updated version that has the new MF code,  the patch to use the video key as the DISP key,  and (if I got it right) the ability to toggle RAW with the video key as well.  Please test and report.

Success! The infinity script works fine and the VIDEO key toggles RAW.
I've no idea what the patch file is for and how to manage it.
I'll make more tests tomorrow, even with other scripts.

One last test - can you use the Video key as the DISP key in the link > OSD Layout Editor to toggle the movement scaling?  If it's working correctly,  pressing the Video key should change how far the icons move when you press the up,down, left,or right keys.

Not a problem.  I just left it there so I don't lose it while working on other stuff.  If everything works,  I'll submit it as a patch.

On OSD Layout Editor the VIDEO key toggles the movement scaling correctly (s: 1<->10).

@ waterwingz

Would you upload again the rev. 3469 you made before the VIDEO toggle mod?
Testing the infinity script with night shots right now it failed ... sigh
Not sure it was just camera shake, but i have a suspicion...
In any case i've to test the script in daylight.

What does "failed" mean?  Tell me in detail how you are testing?  Does it lock at infinity and then release or never lock for example.  Are you running the script on startup or manually via the shutter button in <ALT> mode?  Are you watching the SD override setting using the CHDK OSD display icon?

I don't keep old versions around.  The MF changes in both version were the same - I created both from the same patch file.   If MF is not working it's not related to the Video toggle patch - they are two different things.

I'm running the script manually via the shutter butt.
The DOF OSD says inf/inf/inf.
With script running the focus is locked (the camera doesn't focus other subjects) but distant buildings in frames are blurred. The focus isn't locked to infinite.
With the rev 3462 the camera was focusing despite of the running script.

Now, please, consider that here is 2:30 AM, i'm a bit tired and demoralized.
I'll keep fighting again with script tests tomorrow in daylight.

PS i've to reset (off/on) the camera to get it focus normally after the script

Good.

Also good - that's what we want to see !

That script does not actually stay running.  It starts,  sets the camera in MF mode, and then sets the focus to infinity.  They it stops running and exits <ALT> mode.  You are back to regular Canon shooting mode except the focus is in MF mode and the focus setting should stay at infinity.

So now it's no longer refocussing because of the patch I made (this is good).  But maybe it's focused at the wrong distance?

We don't usually give up on anyone willing to keep testing.

Excellent news - that means the script is getting the camera into MF mode and it is staying there.  The issue seems to be where it sets the actual focus when it's told to set it at infinity.  Believe it or not, this is good progress !

Take a test in daylight it is much easier ... trust me.
Findings:
-the infinity script (on rev. 3469) locks the focus
-the focus isn't locked to infinite, but to close subjects (less than 1 mt) (*)
-the camera is stuck to focusing close subjects until an off/on

(*)this is very strange, i'm quite sure that in previous test with rev. 3469 (before the Video key mod) i got focus to infinite or near. But i could be wrong cause my aging brain..hope it was the poor light at time of first test

[OT] On the wide side the lens of the ixus 125 is quite a 22mm equivalent on RAW frames. Very happy with this! Comparison made with my sony lens DT 11-18mm (equivalent range of 16.5-27mm) on reflex [/OT]

This is very interesting.  It suggests that if the CHDK set_focus() function is given 0xFFFFFFFF (-1) as a setting, the camera does not actually focus at infinity.

You might recall (having had a little more sleep) that I made another change about that time and update the infinity.lua script.  The change was from set_focus(50000) to set_focus(-1) (see my comment above).

You can still get the earlier version of the script here :

I've also attached it below.

One more retest ?
