Aside from overwriting the four CFG files with my old ones, is there anything else I can try to restore my old settings? It's really frustrating to have to redo all the OSD & user menu settings! :(
@philmoz : any idea why this is not working for him ?

The current trunk version (1.3) should attempt to convert the 1.2 config file (CCHDK3.CFG) into the new format.
It should do this if there are no 1.3 config files and the 1.2 file exists.

If you start 1.3 with the CCHDK3.CFG file only, then after conversion, you should then have CCHDK4.CFG, OSD__4.CFG and UMENU4.CFG as well.

Once the conversion is done they are independent, changes made in 1.3 go in the new files only - there is no way to transfer 1.3 settings back to 1.2.

If you revert back to 1.2 it will use the settings in the old file (if it still exists) - any changes made in 1.2 will not get transferred to 1.3 (unless you delete the new config files before starting 1.3 again which should recreate them).

There should be no issues in updating to a new release of 1.3, the new config files should continue to work.

Sorry but I'm confused. How do I use CCHDK?.CFG and OSD?.CFG files from a previous 1.2 installation to restore settings into a new 1.2 installation?

1.2 only uses CCHDK3.CFG.
So long as you have that file you should be able to reinstall 1.2.

Yes but after having copied that file into f:\CHDK\ (where f is my card drive) and loading up the camera, it still loads with the default settings

I may have actually mixed up some files and it's possible that in my backups I only had a CCHDK.CFG and a CCHDK2.CFG from my saved CHDK installation, and not also a CCHDK3.CFG. Either way, both these files are also copied under f:\CHDK, still with no result

Looking back at your earlier posts shows you were using 1.2 revision 2246.

That version dates back to Nov 2012, and was prior to 1.2 becoming the official release version - at that time it still used CCHDK2.CFG.

Hi,

I am using a SX50 HS and really appreciate the possibility to avoid two problems/restrictions of the SX50 in HiSpeedBURST-mode:

1) The SX50 usually takes too high ISO values in HiSpeedBurst mode even under best light conditions. With CHDK I successfully can make use of 100 ISO in HiSpeedBURST mode.

2) Normally the SX50 "only" makes less quality jpegs in HiSpeedBURST mode. With CHDK one can replace the quality with SUPERFINE JPEG.

Unfortunately the different versions of CHDK for the different camera models do NOT consider at least the official shutter speeds of a model.

Why aren´t those values adapted to the values supported natively from a certain cam?
For example the SX50 officially supports 1/2000.
So I wonder why the CHDK branch for SX50 does not reflect this in the custom auto iso menue?
Wouldn´t it be a good idea to consider such official shutter speed values of the different models?

In my case 1/1000 is the min. shutted speed I can choose (instead of the official 1/2000).

In core/autoiso.c the shutter speed array simply does not include 1/2000.

What can I do now in order to get the 1/2000 value in the array?
I am totally new to CHDK. I do not have any development environment for it on my pc.
If i had: Where do I find the SX50 specific code branch for adapting autoiso.c and compiling CHDK for my SX50?

I need the 1/2000 because 1/1000 is not fast enough for making shots of a flying European dipper.

Is there a chance that the bug WATERWINGZ is confirming will be fixed?

If you are talking about CHDK "custom auto ISO" being limited to 1/8th, that could certainly be changed to allow lower values. Seems like a reasonable request to me.
From core/autoiso.c

Code: [Select]
static const int shutter1_values[] = { 0, 8, 15, 30, 60, 125, 250, 500, 1000 };
But then if we are going to look at AutoISO. perhaps making it aware of the camera's Av setting and ND filter setting (if  use by the Canon f/w) might also be a good idea?

If you re-installed the same version of 1.2 it should have worked, unless you had overwritten the file at some point with default settings.

If you are installing a newer version of 1.2 that uses CCHDK3.CFG, and no copy of CCHDK3.CFG exists, then it will not load the CCHDK2.CFG file and will start with default settings.

OK, got it. I will just manually redo all settings now, and then store the CCHDK3.CFG file somewhere safe. In future, overwriting the default F:\CHDK\CCHDK3.CFG of a new version with my old F:\CHDK\CCHDK3.CFG should then restore all the settings - yes?

Thanks a lot for your patience explaining this, Phil :)

EDIT: it seems, unfortunately, that after changing settings around, the file sizes of either .CFG files do not change , so clearly the answer is "no, it's not that simple" :(  I tried running the backup script (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10894.msg106984) but it doesn't load anything, even though I was in playback mode

In addition to the previous question, a couple of observations about this new stable version:
1) the Tv bracketing stil doesn't work (setting +-1/3EV and then taking a HQ burst of 8 pics takes identically-exposed pics); if one is to bracket exposure, it can only be done via Av bracketing, which is slower and (I believe) puts more mechanical strain on the camera
2) the Fallback Min Shutter Speed doesn't work as expected: I set it to 1/4s (Min Shutter was at its 1/8 minimum) and then shot a dark scene that would have required at least 1/4s. Instead, 1/8 was used, thus underexposing the picture
3) The same goes for the Fallback ISO setting: although it was set to 3200, no amount of darkness made it go above the ISO400 limit (which is not really a setting anywhere in the menu)

Very much look forward to these bugs perhaps one day being fixed for the HQ Burst Mode of the SX?0 HS series
