Anybody has some succes with loading a full version of CHDK onto the SX170 IS?

I tried with some of the forum links, but they seem incomplete for the moment.

Thanks!

Hi people of CHDK,

I'm new here and I own a SX170 IS ver 101a. I download the attached sx170is-101a-1.3.0-3605-full.zip file and followed all the steps to install CHDK. But when I go in to play mode I don't see an update firmware version option anywhere. How did you guys install it?

Regards

Just some interesting information, I found a company called akond that supplies ID capture software that makes use of some kind of altered CHDK software to control an array of Cannon cameras. The software fully supports the SX170IS (ver 101 and 100). I tried the software and it works. It allows the following functionality via USB:
* Live view (updates every 40ms or so)
* Image capture, view and download
* Zoom
* Other camera settings like white balance.

I've attached two files as proof.

Thanks for the input, take time to review AKOND but CHDK is more professional and gives you the ability to shoot in RAW or DNG.

lvrennes
try the bootable method.

CHDK does not cost $149 (US$) either.

Can somebody upload whatever their installer places on the SD card? I don't have a recent enough Windows around to try.
Nevertheless, some of their binaries do contain CHDK related strings. "PTP_CHDK_GetVideoSettings" for example appears in the libgphoto source (LGPL). However, they don't mention gphoto at all which makes me think they may not care about open source licenses very much.

Another thing that kind of stands out is their claim to be able to set white balance.  Latest info here on the forum seems to be "Aside from going through the menus with key presses, we don't know how to set WB."

So maybe they are doing key presses?   Or adjusting the image in post processing?
