I don't understand why bongo_bingo's dump is incorrect. After loading in IDA it disassembles correctly.

Quote
Is there something I can do to make a correct dump?
How can I see I've done it correctly?

Just format card before dumping and do touch (erase/write) empty.dum in dumping process.

Well,
I'm going to dump firmware for 3 times (with udumper for 5 minutes), then I'll compare files with this utility SourceGear | DiffMerge | downloads to see if there are differences.
If the file are the same the I'll assume dump was correct. Is it right?

What after?

1 - Load the files in disassembler: can you link me to the correct idc file for the g9?

thanks

Well,

Bongo's dump miss a lot of code ( e.g.: languages codes and others) at the end of the firmware as mentioned before.

And also he started his dump approx. from FF774200 (there are 684kB usless '00's at the begining).

The "original" dump file size should be 8 323 072 bytes. So if I cut those leading '00's there is a size missmatch.

Yes, I understand those rear (2nd part of the dump wich contains just not so much interesting )codes are not used for

development
(YET), but however it would be nice to do a WHOLE dump from FF810000-FFFFFFFF. Including everything.

Waiting for bongo-bing's and dew's 1.00F udumper confirmation...

Cheers,

P.S.: My opinion is : Do it perfectly and not to be lasy.  :)

I've done few other dumps with udumper, but they are identical to the one I've posted (I've used winmerge to compare the  files).
Maybe udumper have to be adjusted to dump the whole g9 firmware, but don't know how.

Sorry but I haven't the knowledge to dump with the hardware method mentioned in the wiki.

Can't we start to work with this part of the firmware?

What are the next steps?

Once more... The first 4MB is enough for porting of CHDK. The second part contains data resources (strings, pics, sounds, fonts, etc.), some DSP code and boot code at the last 64KB.

I don't have the knowledge to work alone, I offer myself to do some boring part, but someone of the developers have to guide me.

What do you think about start a thread called "chdk for g9 - Dvelopment Center", where we can organize the things that we have, list the things that are missed and coordinate the work?

cheers

Hi,

I have a G9 and am willing to help, just don't know how. My G9 also has the 1.00D Frimware which was dumped already. I quite like bongo's idea of making a joint effort to get this one progressed. Who could take the lead?

cheers

Here's the dump from my G9, it's firmware version 1.00G. I used udumper so it's a partial, 4GB, dump. I tried editing the wiki page but it doesn't recognise my userid there nor will it allow me to create one; the captcha system seems broken. I'll try and modify udumper soon to obtain a complete dump.
