SD870 Hangs with CHDK

I think I have properly installed Allbest #50 build on my SD870, firmware version GM1.00c.  The blue lamp flashes and the CHDK menus display in ALT mode.

My problem: the lens fails to extend.

On pressing the Func Set and Disp. buttons for firmware version, an additional message appears on second button press:  'Zoom Lens Error'

I can only figure the firmware is corrupted, or I have made some mistake.

I half-pressed the shoot button, and the lens still failed to extend.

I had activated the Histogram in 'shoot only', and it displayed with many vertical lines after the half-press.

Actually, that's strange. Do/Did you have any problems without CHDK?

I just read in another post that one shouldn't shoot while in ALT mode.
So, I switched off ALT and, after a half press, the lens extends and CHDK seems to be working perfectly!  The only problem was me.

Thanks for your comments and for making CHDK possible for us.
