hi

thanks again for your reply.

i changed the battery, but no improvement.

the enable sync was disabled.

I wasn't sure how to run the script?

I copied the script to the sd card.  Then I loaded the script from file,  Autostart was on.

I tried using the CA-1,  but i didn't any log file.  I did the message
Ricoh CA-1 Tester at the bottom of the menu,  also logging was enabled.

I've not run scripts before so wasn't sure what i was doing.

Again thanks for looking into this.

This shows that you loaded the script properly so the hard part it done.

To run a script, the camera needs to be in CHDK <ALT> mode with the CHDK menus closed.  Then simply fully press the shutter release button.   You should see the message "Ricoh CA-1 test started" appear on the screen and then each time you press the button on the CA-1 you should get a message telling you what happened.

Autostart will cause the script to run each time you turn the camera on.  This can be confusing so you should probably turn it off.

Looks pretty much perfect - exactly what I would expect to see.  The sequence of pulses reported is correct. The script will report any pulses that are "out of spec" and I don't see any in your log.

So here's an obvious question.  When you try to use the Ricoh-CA1 to take pictures,  is the camera in CHDK <ALT> mode ?   If so,  it should not be - exit the CHDK menus and CHDK and run the camera in "normal" Canon mode.

hi again

thanks

when trying to take photos camera was in normal mode.

in my log file it shows a half press, full press, release sequence no matter what i do, in the log file you showed i see a half press, release and then sometimes a full press, release sequence of messages,  is that significant to this problem.

There are two switches in the CA-1 - one gets triggered earlier in the press than the other one. That creates the half press if you don't push any farther.   It's possible your CA-1 has the half and full press switches triggering together - or that you are pressing a little too hard and never getting the half-press by itself.

Either way, it should take a picture when you press and the pulse sequence is being read correctly by the camera.   I'm puzzled - I guess the next thing is a special build with internal debugging enabled.

Meanwhile, can you try the test mentioned above with the input type set to "one press" and a standard USB cable between your camera and computer as the trigger (by plugging and unplugging the cable at the computer end).  Does that take a picture?

hi

thanks for your reply.

after your remarks about half press and full press,  i pressed the ca-1 button with an even lighter touch and did observe the half press, release sequence as you got in your log file.  So yes, i was pressing the button too hard before.

After trying the usb plug and unplug test, still i didn't get any results further.

i found a website that sells a software called http://www.breezesys.co.uk/PSRemote/features.htm
that sells a software to remotely control a canon camera from a pc.  it looks like this camera does not support the remote capture feature.  maybe that is why the usb plug and unplug method isn't working, further maybe this camera's chdk software doesn't support remote triggering either,  I'm not sure if my logic is correct.

I don't know anything about the PSRemote software package but I do know a little bit about the USB remote code in CHDK.   Based on the results you have posted running the CA-1 test script, your camera clearly does support using a USB remote via the camera's USB connector.  We just have to figure out why its not working when you use it to try and take a picture.  The code to do that is common to all CHDK cameras - I must be missing something obvious.

hi

i also tried cam4you but that didn't work either.

You mentioned something about a special build of CHDK for debugging purposes. How hard is that to do, is something i have to do, like programming etc.

thanks

Like I said,  I don't know anything about cam4you but I assume its not CHDK so that really does not tell me alot as we have already verified that your remote is producing pulses that CHDK should be able to understand (as the test script worked perfectly).

I've attached a CHDK version for your camera with full debugging enabled.   When you enable the remote,  you will see a lot of information on the camera display.  If you have the camera set to CA-1 mode,  you should see a colored message in the upper left hand corner showing the button press state ( e.g. RELEASED, HALF PRESS, FULL PRESS).  This version will also log a lot of information to the SD card.   Please configure the remote,  go into shooting mode and half press / full press / release several times.  Then zip up all the files that say RC0000n.DAT and post them here?
