HI

Thanks for your reply.

i tried to follow your instructions.

i moved the old chdk folder and other files into a subfold, (so i could restore them later)
then i copied the files from your zip file to the sd card.
At this point i was unable to do the firmware update as i was able to do before.
Then i noticed a missing file in the root of the sd card that was present in the old chdk, that file was PS.FI2.

i copied this file from the original chdk to the sd card root.

i did the firmware update
in chdk alt mode i enabled remote, mode was ca-1
however when i was in shooting mode, i didn't the coloured message indicating button state.

after testing the ca-1,  i couldn't see any log files, should they have been in the LOGS folder?

it looked to me exactly as before,  i didn't see any different messages.

thanks

The CHDK version I sent you does not include the ability to boot using the "Firwmare Update" method.  When you copied over the ps.fi2 file,  you were putting your orignal verion of CHDK back ( the ps.fi2 file is CHDK for firmware update booting - diskboot.bin is CHDK for autobooting)

You can use STICK utility to download CHDK, format and configure your card.  You then can expand the zip file I sent onto that card after STICK is done and have the test version loaded.

hi

thanks for that,  please find attached the zip file.

I noticed some things while doing the test.

I was able to see the HALF-PRESSED message when I lightly pressed the CA-1's trigger button.  However when tried to do a FULL-PRESS, i noticed it briefly showing and then showing RELEASED even when had my finger held down.  I thought it would show RELEASED when i relax my finger off the switch and it comes back up.

I'm not sure how significant that observation would be.

That's very interesting.  When you press do the full press, it's sending the release pulses even though your finger is down.  On my CA-1, the release pulses only get sent when the button is physically released.

Very.  It would explain why you can't take a picture - the premature release pulses cancel the shot.

I'll take a look and see what your log file tells me.

Looking at the logs,  it appears that you are doing the tests while the camera is in playback mode rather than shooting mode?  Is that possible?

If so,  can you put the camera into shooting mode and rerun the test please with Control Mode set to Normal ?

For reference, I've attached a little Perl script that interprets the log files.  Usage :

cat RC*.DAT > rc.dat
./dump.pl < rc.dat | less

hi

To boot from the sd card i had to start the camera in normal mode with the on/off button.  I did see the chdk logo and using the play button offers the alt option and when i press the menu i had the chdk menu.

the switch was ca-1, mode was normal.

i have another test file attached.

Starting the camera with the On/Off button is fine except that CHDK starts in playback mode.

You need to go into shooting mode if you want to take a picture.  This is exactly what you do when you are not using CHDK and you want to take a picture.   Pressing on your CA-1 will only take a picture if you are in shooting mode (i.e. lens extended and ready to shoot).

hi

thanks for that.

usually when i pressed the on/off button i got the lens to come out.
this time it didn't until i turned the big knob at the top of the camera and back again.

anyhow i got the lens out and did the ca-1 test again,  i did a beep once, the first time i pressed the ca-1
after that it was the observation as before,  i.e. RELEASED when i still had my finger on the button.

i also pressed the shutter button on the camera aswell during the test as well but not at the same as the ca-1 trigger button.

i have attached this latest log file.  i noticed that this time there was only one file and the date time stamp was correct, unlike the previous cases.
