Are 'stable-release' cameras with unlisted firmware versions rare?

Hi...wanting to buy a camera from Amazon or EBay or similar that has a series of stable CHDK releases.
Since I generally can't get the firmware version, do I have worry about getting a camera that has a
firmware version that isn't listed?

For example, let's say I want to get an SX200IS. http://mighty-hoernsche.de/ lists two releases,
1.00C and 1.00D. Are these two versions all there are, or is it at all possible that I might
get a camera that has firmware 1.00E?

Porting CHDK to a new firmware version from an existing 'stable' release is fairly easy these days.

If you do get a new firmware, just dump it and upload to file sharing site and post a link here.
Chances are good someone will be able to get it up and running.

For ports that have existed for a long time it's fairly unlikely (but not impossible) that there are firmware versions that we haven't seen before. If there are unported, known firmware variants, it is likely to be mentioned in the wiki page or development thread.

The ports of these two firmwares of the SX 200 are identical. And as we know Canon, there won't be any other firmware version, it is too old.

While it's true Canon will not be releasing new firmware versions, there may be versions of the camera with different firmware, especially versions sold into specific regional markets. For less popular cameras it's quite possible nobody has tried CHDK on some firmware versions.

Thanks, all...I think perhaps I'm fretting too much about this. Had the idea that I could get a cheaper A-series camera to play with, without too much consequence, just to play, before committing more $$.
