We have just finished building our home made 3D body scanner with 64 CHDK-enabled A1400 cameras.
Control and synchronization of the cameras as well as the automatic download of the images is based and built upon multicam.lua

Picture and sample results can be viewed on our latest blog post:

A big thanks to all the CHDK community for all the amazing work achieved so far!

Lovin' your work there.. I particularly like the 128 (or more) dowel and screw AA batteries..

What did you use to power everything? Is there a big beefy ATX PSU bank sitting sweating in the background some place, or a rats nest farm of wall warts?

EDIT: Just spotted the wall PSUs on the poles.. tidy stuff, so tidy I missed them when I first went through the pictures.

Wow, amazing! Great use of CHDK.

The detail in the 3D is just amazing! It is actually so good that it feels a little intimate. At some point while I was spinning around this guy, I ended up inside his head! My evening became all philosophic from that point on... Maybe you should model him some brains  :P :-[

By the way, animated 3D (video) shouldn't be too hard to accomplish, should it? The only downside is that it might need a lot of more work in post.

This is my first post and I've noticed that it has been over 120 days since the last according to the warning I'm getting.  Please let me know if this is in bad form.

This is amazing work, and I'm looking to do the same.  I'm looking at using the DSLR Remote Pro by Breeze Systems and either the EOS 1200D or Rebel T5.

My question is how much space do you need for your rig?  I ask because I'll be working with limited space, my biggest concern is the room is roughly 8 1/2 feet across.  Will it work?

Thank you very much, and again I commend you on your achievements.

My question ...... Will it work (???)
Re:- DSLR Remote Pro Multi-Camera for controlling multiple Canon EOS digital SLRs from a PC running Windows.

How accurately can the (DSLR Canon) cameras be synchronized? See:-

http://www.breezesys.com/MultiCamera/index.htm

http://www.breezesys.com/MultiCamera/release.htm

"....Triggering still photos via USB: The cameras will fire one after the other with a delay of approximately 1/6th sec between each camera..."

120 DSLR Camera Rig Here http://www.breezesys.com/Images/multicamera_car_ad.jpg

Note that the "Precision USB Sync" for 120 DSLR Cameras, used in the Ad, x ~~0.66s = ~~80 SECONDS.

Edit #2

".....Part of an array of 120 Canon EOS 30D cameras controlled using 5 laptops running
 DSLR Remote Pro Multi-Camera...."

By using 5 laptops the DSLR Camera Rig's "Precision USB Sync" will be improved,
But also so will ChdkPtp "Sync" via USB by using 5 laptops. also see Edit #1.

~~~~~~~~PSRemote vs CHDK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PSRemote Multi-Camera for controlling multiple Canon PowerShot cameras from a PC running Windows,
Supports Canon PowerShot Legacy (up to 2007) Cameras ONLY.
CHDK works with many more Canon PowerShot Cameras than PSRemote.
@ mphx (#60) "... 64 ..." (Cameras)
@ reyalp (#60) Each command is just sent sequentially to each cam, so if you aren't using sync, 4ms per cam there would be a minimum 1/4 second between the first and last cam.
@ reyalp (#62)  In chdkptp changeset 610 I made some changes which speed up the sync process a lot.
Also, See Note at the bottom of the "Firing multiple cameras at the same time" page.
