A1200 reboot failure

Hi i have been running Ultimate Intervalometer daily whilst building up my associated hardware, battery, regulator etc, but i have an issue that i have been trying to fix for the last 3 days.
I have Ultimate Intervalometer set to :-
5 Min interval
start at dawn [.]
end at dusk {.}
start and end to default 0900 and 1700
day of week [all]
shoot when tv [off]
days between resets [1]
low batt

display blamking mode [dispkey]
lattitude 520
long 72
utc
  • (gmt)

logging to default of [both]

Runs fine and takes pictures as of yesterday from 0513 to 1807 so dawn and dusk override is working and my lat and log are good for my location.
However the last picture is just before 1807 but the camera does not restart it simply switches off.

I have had an old canon a530 running the same Ultimate intervalometer script with same settings (except interval set to 15 minutes) thats been running for 5 days and nights no problem.(it restarts faithfully adjusting the start and finish times a couple of minutes each day).
Anyone know of any other settings perhaps on the camera itself that i need to set in order for the restart to work properly.
I am using 16gb sdhc 1 fat32 partition as installed by Stick. I will try a 2gb card tonight just for elimination purposes.
regards

This is most likely a know problem, unrelated to the script or your camera setup.

There are a couple of long threads about it :

There seems to be a fix that was implemented in the 1.3.0 branch after release 3377.

What version / release are you using?

Thanks for the advice, i am using v1.2.0.
I will read the threads tonight.
Will also try the v1.3 version and post back results.
Many thanks

:) Have not had time to read fully through the threads yet to understand exactly what the fix was, but as you suggested, using ver 1.3.0 did indeed address this reboot issue. The A1200 now restarts properly.

I will keep it on test for a further 15 days before committing it to its job for the next couple of months.

Thankyou again Waterwingz. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately, the workaround in the current 1.3 trunk appears to cause other issues such as config settings (and possibly other things) not being saved when they should. See http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6179.90

If you can tell me which canon firmware your a1200 has, I can provide you a build with a possible alternative fix.

Hi Reyalp. My a1200 version is 100a.
I must admit it has been locking up (getting stuck) from time to time but i had put this down to an external psu that has just failed. Seems to ok on a dc step down regulator so far.

Happy to test a new version if it may help with reliability.
thank-you

If it turns out not to be the PSU and the camera actually shuts down (rather than just locking up), a romlog may understand where it is happening http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Debugging#Camera_crash_logs_.28romlog.29

It may be more or less stable, but if you are willing to test it may get us a proper solution to the whole startup crash thing. Mainly I wanted to warn you that the 1.3 version you are using may have issues.

Attached is a build for a1200 100a (also 100b since they use the same CHDK build)

I would definitely suggest testing it before using in a long running project.

If you want to post a patch,  I can leave it running overnight on my well worn 1.00c test camera.

Charger, battery, dc to dc regulator, capable of running approx 3 days without charge.Let you know how i get on.

Just add DEF(filesem,0x2920) in stubs_min.S and use the patch I posted here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6179.msg111410#msg111410
