No pictures when card viewed on laptop

I have a G7 100G. I used STICK to install 1.2 stable and am able to access the CHDK menus and take pictures.
I can see the RAW and jpg pictures in the file browser on the camera but when I plug the card into my laptop (Lightroom import) there is no image folder and no images.

I would like to only take RAW files, and would like to download via card reader. What did I get wrong?

(When I unlock the card and reinsert I can shoot pictures and view them on the laptop.)
(I shoot only RAW with my DSLRs so am familiar with the format)

How large is the SD card that STICK formatted for you?   The G7 was released prior to 2011 and so needs a dual partition scheme to autoboot with cards larger than 4G.

If your card is larger than 4G, STICK created two partitions for you and is putting the pictures on the larger partition while leaving the smaller partition active so that you can autoboot with the SD card lock method.

Unfortunately,  Windows thinks SD cards can only have one partition and does not let you see the other one.  There are several ways around this but the easiest is probably this utility : http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/wasp/wasp.html

Use it to switch the active partition so that you can see your pictures on your PC.  Don't forget to switch it back before returning the card to your G7.

There is also way to do this "in camera".

  • go to the CHDK Miscellaneous Stuff menu
  • then go to the SD Card menu
  • change menu enty Swap Partitions  to [ 2/2 ]
  • power off the camera and remove the SD card. Your images will now be visible in your PC
  • when you are done with your images, return the SD card to your camera
  • restart the camera (notice it does not autoboot) and use the "firmware update" method to load CHDK
  • go to the CHDK Miscellaneous Stuff menu
  • then go to the SD Card menu
  • change menu entry Swap Partitions  to [ 1/2 ]
  • done
