I'm looking to see if you guys can suggest a good camera to use for long term remote timelapsing. I currently have the Elph 130 and it's a great camera. It's inability to sleep - or power on without a human pressing the power button - is a concern because of the amount of power needed to keep it on for 24 hours. We're talking in the neighborhood of a 12v car battery and a 30w solar panel.

Is anyone aware of a Canon camera that can use CHDK but also has a power SWITCH (not a button)? This way when power is restored to the camera (via a timer), it'll power up and CHDK can go into the timelapse mode. Without a human being present. This will save on the solar battery life too.

Thoughts?

That applies to pretty much every CHDK supported cameras. A few very old ones will power on if power is applied to the USB connector.

You you have an externally controlled power supply, you can have the power button held down and just apply external power to boot it. But this may not be without risk either: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=11434.0
