Thanks for the image Koshy. I'm mystified. There's no apparent difference in the EXIF data between the photos you sent me and the standard Powershot N sample photos I downloaded from the Canon website sometime back.

As a result, ACID and STICK can't tell the difference between the two cameras and hence will download a standard Powershot N build when given a photo taken with a N Facebook camera.

It's also clear that the sample N Facebook photos on the official Canon website were not take with the same camera you have.

I'll look to see if there is anything in the EXIF that differs between the two cameras.

Using EXIFTOOL, there's no difference at all between Koshy's photos and standard Powershot N photos. Does anyone else have a Powershot N Facebook camera just so I can confirm that there's no way to tell the difference by examining a photo? If so, please mail me one.

I've searched the web and the only sample photos taken with the N Facebook camera are the two on Canon's website - they both exhibit the same peculiar firmware version information (version 150 with no alpha character afterwards).

There are no significant differences in the exif data to distinguish the cameras. We have the same problems in German forum with the automatic detection of the right version.

Btw., the demo pictures on the canon.us side was taken with a prototyp camera (firmware revision 1.5.0 rev 0.00).

Posted a patch today for the custom color palette (CAM_LOAD_CUSTOM_COLOR) conflict with the Canon Color Option setting.    Hopefully it will make the overnight build.

Tested on my Powershot N  - was unable to break it.

However, during development it was sometimes unclear if the palette_buffer_ptr values updated immediately in Playback mode when the Canon Color Option was changed.  This might mean that changing the Color Option in playback mode will result in a goofy CHDK palette until the camera is restarted.  But there should not be any crashing.  But so far, I've been unable to make that or anything else bad happen while changing Color Options.

I thought I'd drop a note here so somebody can remind me about it six months from now when this crops up.   ::)

Also, using the wifi button as the <ALT> mode button may have a small glitch. Sometimes, when you start the camera in playback mode (via the playback button or a short press on the shoot button),  then the first time you "short press" the wifi button,  the camera will switch into shooting mode.  The second "short press" puts the camera into <ALT> mode.   Not a big problem - just unexpected.  I'll look at it some more.

While there is no difference in EXIF info between the N and the N Facebook (and hence STICK will not download an N Facebook build if you drop a photo taken with such a camera), I have modified STICK so that you can install an N Facebook build quite easily

For more information see http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/stick/sticknfb.html

Note that you have to download the latest version of STICK.

Thanks for that.  I've updated the wiki page for the "N" to reflect this : Powershot N & Powershot N Facebook Ready

Is it possible that USB remote cable funktion is still not working in actual release of CHDK for Powershot N?

regards,
Andreas

It works properly on my "N".  Tell us a bit more about your setup and what steps you followed?

Update!

USB remote funcion is working properly ...
The problem was, that the output pin of the atmega, driving usb + connector has too low voltage or drives too low current so it was not recognized by usb port of camera.
I testet simple circuit with direct connection to +5 volt on processor board and everything works properly now...
I have to add a high current driver into signal line to USB+ contact.
By the way, does somebody know how much current (mA) is drainded by usb+ and what is the minimum voltage level in case of recognizing high signal? I could find no information about this here and in some other communities...

Regards, Andraes.

The problem was, that the output pin of the atmega, driving usb + connector has too low voltage or drives too low current so it was not recognized by usb port of camera.
Normally,  the +5V input pin on the USB port of all Canon P&S cameras draws almost no current.  So the only issue is making sure the voltage is higher than the input's threshold value.

However,  the Powershot N allows the camera's Li battery to be charged via the USB port - a feature unique to the "N" AFAIK.   So it's naturally going to draw a lot more current than other Canon P&S cameras.

I have not tested this for the Powershot N myself and I suspect nobody else has either.   A typical USB power computer port will only deliver 100 mA but I have not tried charging my "N" that way.  The power adapter that comes with the "N" is rated at 0.55A so that might give you some guidance ?  If I get minute in the next week or so,  I'll make some measurements of the voltage & current performance of the USB port.

Update : I added a note about this to the wiki page for the "N" : Powershot N Wikia Page : CHDK Specialities
