Change audio sampling rate

My A570 IS (1.00e) recording audio at 8bit/11kHz and sound quality is poor. Based on
Canon USA Consumer Products
it should be able to recording at 16bit/22kHz. I wonder if it is for firmware 1.01a only or possible enabled by CHDK? Thanks

This has been requested before.

That link is sort of interesting, though. It's clearly quite old, written for the S1 and S2 (for which that 16-bit 22 kHz statement is probably correct). As to why that page is linked with more recent models too, I'm guessing its a webmaster screwup. :)

Those cameras are so noisy during shooting movies that I doubt that increasing bitrate would bring any audible advantage.

Noisy? Apart from zoom and focus (disabled during movie record by Canon, overridable by CHDK), what noise are you referring to? Noise coupled from digital circuitry? There's horrible quantization distortion due to the glorious 8 bit representation and the 11 kHz rate is just plain horrible...it cannot represent frequencies above 5,5 kHz while the electrect mic in the camera extremely likely picks up at least up to 15 kHz with ease. I have trouble interpreting speech recorded by my a570is as is.

I don't feel like speculating, it's just my bet. Though I will be glad to hear advantage of 16 bits over 8.
