There´s a voodoo in booting locked card. Sometimes cam can´t load the .flts, st I get SD-card-error when booting to <rec> or switching to <rec> 1.st time.
It seems random, no crash, no need to pull bat or card, just off & on to next try.
Just to clarify, when this happens you see the message "Memory card error" on the display?

Only in <rec>.
dng thumbnail looks fine, counter ok... 8)

Thanks for the logs. Looks OK. I need a dng file, you have to upload it somewhere and send a download link or you can measure the active area yourself as described here: https://app.assembla.com/spaces/chdkptp/wiki/DNG_Processing

I think I know the solution for "Memory card error".

Can you capture black/white images in other modes than Program mode if chdk is not loaded?

Happy to report that the b/w issue was unexpected settings in the camera itself, indeed not CHDK related. Further tests pending.
