If the 'green' problem persists, please tell me how to reproduce (and/or make a short video of it).

Sure enough, the RAW files were in another directory of the SD card; was busy photographing the lunar eclipse in the early morning, only tried a few in that mode (P) setting. The partially eclipsed moon is hard because of the great difference in illumination between the two areas, but got some fairly nice photos. Thanks.

hi, used stick to install sx280hs-102c-102d-prealpha8_1.3.0-3449-full onto the sd card. Place it back in the camera and try to update firmware and it gives me an "Update File Error!" message. Camera is a sx280hs version GM1.02D.

Any help would be appreciated. New to CHDK, but have followed the instructions to the letter. Thanks.

If you have used STICK to install, don't forget to lock the card. Autoboot is the only supported starting method at the moment. You probably have a ps.fi2 file on the card that is neither a valid fw update package nor a valid CHDK file for the camera (the prealpha .zip doesn't include that file).

Thank you Sir. I do have the card locked, and when I power on using the Play button I see the firmware notification on the start screen. However when I go into the menu settings and try to Update Firmware it gives me an error message. I'm after only being able to remove trigger the camera, does this firmware allow for me to do this if I make a remote trigger to apply 5volts to the usb port?

Thank you again for your reply and the help.

To clarify, I do have the ps.fir etc on the disk. I am assuming from your reply that this is not required.

If you see the CHDK splash screen then CHDK is already running.
Note that CHDK does not replace the camera's firmware. It only loads from the (prepared) SD card.

Yes, you can set it up in the CHDK menu: CHDK Settings -> Remote Parameters.
To enter and exit ALT mode, press the playback button quickly (the old function of the playback button is still available: hold down the button for approx. 0.5 second). You can enter the CHDK menu by pressing the MENU button in ALT mode. For more information, see http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_User_Manual .
For limitations of the sx280 prealpha releases, see the first post of this thread.

Hello all. New user here. I was able to download 102b and install it on my 64gb card. Things are working well. I even like the smaller menu.

I have an SX260 as well and upgraded for the faster processor and quicker buffer. The improvement is nice.

I'm fiddling with video options now and notice that my 260 records in 24fps and the 280 records at 30fps. I actually prefer the look of 24. I'm googling around right now to see if I can change the setting, but I thought I'd do a quick ask here as well to see if there is existing knowledge surrounding the question.

Thanks for porting to this camera!

I haven't done any research into this, the only thing I know is that the movie recording firmware code shows no similarity to the code used on earlier (DIGIC II-5) cameras. Changing frame rate is therefore not currently possible.

Not really CHDK related, but i thought i might as well report it here since some people come looking for CHDK to solve it. There is a known problem with a part of the SX280 / 270 model cameras  that makes them shut off (long) before the battery gets empty. For some it is only during video recording, but for me at least, it happened in any mode, making the camera basically unusable until i learned to tape off the middle terminal of the battery. This seems to be a hardware problem that cannot be solved in firmware or with firmware extensions like CHDK. Canon, at least here in Europe, is now offering free repairs on cameras with this problem.
