Need some help on batch copying exif data from jpg to dng

Hi.
I am a heavy frame-stacker since RAW average was introduced into CHDK. In camera RAW average works great, and only little diversion from normal work flow is needed(rename the output WAV to CRW). As numbers of frames needed to stack grow, I have to use NMerge utility included in DNG4PS. Though I don't know if there is any key difference in processing algorithm between in camera RAW average and NMerge, NMerge just works fast and produces impressive results. However, dngs generated by NMerge are uncompressed and without correct exif data even if I put jpgs with the same file names as the RAW files in the same directory. Adobe DNG Converter does the compression for me, but it doesn't copy exif info either. I'd like to embed exif from one of those identical shots into the output merge.dng for future reference. DNG4PS2 does not accept dngs as input.

Is there any tool or work flow that can help me get compressed dng with proper exif info? Thanks for your advice.

I use Exiftool, can read and write DNG files. You don't mention your OS, but this tool is platform-independent.
It's the most powerful metadata tool I know.

ExifTool by Phil Harvey

Someone made a GUI for it, if you don't like command line.

When converting my raw data to DNG I use DNG4PS-2. It grabs the Exif data from the jpeg and adds it to the DNG file.

Thanks for the head up. I am reading docs of the exiftool, trying to figure it out. My OS is Windows XP x86 SP3.

Yes, DNG4PS2 does support exif copy during crw to dng conversion, and it works great in my RAW post-processing work flow, but what I need now is exif copy during(or before) dng to dng compression.
