Problem with changing firmware in A620.

Hi.

I have been trying to get the GrAnd's Original Build v1.00f into my Canon A620 for quite some time,
and it just won't work. I am using the uploader-software that should work fine with the A620.

I download the files, put them in their right folders and start the transfer. Everything is going smoothly until i choose to switch firmware in the camera menu.

Then the display goes black, and the camera doesn't answer to anything.

What should i do to fix this?

Greetings,
Jaeger

Are you sure your camera has the correct firmware version?

The program says that i have the 1.0.0.0 version pre installed. Does that matter?

In theory, 1.0.0.0 is not a valid firmware level/format. Try these instructions:

Can i do that with the upload software? I don't own any card reader, unfortunately.

I don't know... The better bet is to get a cheap new card reader that supports SD/SDHC... There are lots of "issues" with various models of cameras (can't force format for FAT16, may not be able to make the card "bootable", can't always copy RAW images from camera, etc.).

Otherwise, just try another version(s) of CHDK for your camera. Won't hurt anything.

Lastly, the A620 is one of the few with a real firmware update from Canon:

FAQ - CHDK Wiki

The "real" firmware update carries with it the chance of failing to correctly update your camera (Bricking your camera)--it would probably be a last resort (after you get a real card reader--or borrow one from a friend).

Right now the only version of A620 is supported by CHDK. It's 1.00f. If your camera locks then you loaded the CHDK it's more likely you have the 1.00e version. Then you have to update your original firmware to 1.00f (FAQ - CHDK Wiki).

Thanks for the answer.

That helped, now i can use all the cool stuff in the custom firmware. :D
