Troubleshooting Remote Shutter Issue

Hi,
I'm using a remote with 3x AAA 1.5v batteries on a push button switch.  I have verified that 4.6 volts is traveling to the camera via the Mini-USB cable.  When CHDK is in ALT mode the push of a button pulls up a menu with the Shutter on "+"  You can't do anything in the menu??

At this point I believe I have to properly configure CHDK to run the remote in the settings.  I would appreciate a run-down of the setting that have to be enabled to operate via USB remote.  Once I get this squared away I hope to begin testing the camera ELPH110HS.

I appreciate your help!   :'(

Sounds like a good start !

When you apply power via your remote button,  the camera thinks you have connected it to your PC and goes into a sort of "PC transfer mode".  This is perfectly normal - see below.

Correct.

Short version of what to do is :
  • Disconnect your USB remote switch from your camera (for now)
  • Start your camera,  enter <ALT> mode,  bring up the CHDK menus
  • Select CHDK Settings
  • Select Remote Parameters
  • Set Enable Remote [ * ]
  • Set Switch Type [ One Push ]
  • Set Control Mode [ Normal ]
  • Exit the CHDK Menus
  • Exit from <ALT> Mode
  • Connect your USB remote switch
  • Press the button to focus,  release to shoot
  • Profit !

Something is still out of spec.  Im wondering if my usb cable is bad or the battery pack has issues. I hacked up the cable again and still nothing. Im starting to feel like Im losing it, the switch works and it pulls up the menu but it does nothing when not an alt mode?

Is the camera in shooting mode?

Also, what menu does it pull up? And what version and release of CHDK are you using?

You can also test things by plugging a standard USB cable to your PC and camera once you have setup CHDK per my instructions above and that should trigger a shoot.

Waterwingz,

Thank you, its up and running nicely.  Auto-focus was disabled, not sure if that had anything to do with it but everything works just fine.  I sincerely appreciate your help.  I have allot of testing to do now and I cant wait to get some imagery this summer once I get my bird off the ground.

Glad you got it working.  I don't think auto-focus would have anything to do with it though.  Probably best to chalk this up to PEBKAC again.
